White Stripe Party Dress (via White House Black Market)

In the vein of last week's reasonable white dress, here is another one from White House Black Market. I wish more companies provided pretty dresses at this amount. Just ask David's Bridal. They don't even make white bridesmaids dresses. Other dress stores increase the price exponentially as soon as the dress becomes white. And no that's not just b/c white material is more difficult to keep clean during the dress making process.

This would be a perfect summer wedding dress. I wish this had been around last year! It's exactly what I was looking for. Last year they had a dress with this top but it was a pencil bottom. I am not a pencil kind of girl.

Also with this dress, someone with some sewing skills could add more flair at the bottom. (Note to self: must learn to sew!)

This dress is under $200. The bride can actually move around and dance. For hot outdoor weddings the bride may actually be comfortable. Shocking I know. I KNOW!

Ruffle Belt (Via Rachel of Heart of Light)

I need to start getting to work on dress alterations. I'm having mixed feelings about some of the things I want to try. I need to get advice but I'm a little worried I look like a fool, which makes me both need advice but also worried about getting it. :)

Something like this belt could work really well as a ruffly strap. This is the clever work of Rachel from Heart of Light blog.

The flower construction is similar to a type I've been doing for bouquets.

Tulle! (via Leproust Vintage)

This Kristin Jones kind of makes me want to travel to Tennessee and plant a hug.  She mentions that she likes to make temporary modifications. To this dress, she added the tulle at the base. Yes! Yes yes yes! I've been trying to find slips online to see if just putting something under my knee length dress could elongate it. Make it more weddingy. I'm thinking about adding fabric flowers. Something. But then I came across Kirstin's blog Leproust Vintage and it was perfect timing. I think there is some tulle in my future. (Or, um, rather, *more* tulle in my future.) Thank you Kristin!

Dress Finding Mission

Weddings are all about being the center of attention whether you like it or not. Recently I was talking with a friend about my extreme discomfort at these particular types of attention. Also, I don't really like shopping with people. Or I'm very very selective of who I shop with and what I shop for...and especially how much I spend. This is an equation that makes dress shopping (even my $150 dress) kind of the most not fun thing ever.

Well, a bit of brainstorming over drinks and dessert, Andrea (hello there !) and I devised a plan: scavenger hunt. Not really, but b/c I know my wedding party wants to be a part of the dress search (I can feel my anxiety rising) we came up with the idea of all of us going into a large department store and then going off on our own for like 45 minutes. We'd meet back at a particular dressing room with white/cream/champagne colored dresses but also their ideas for bridesmaids dresses. That way we are all trying things on at the same time and I can get their opinions on both at once.

Genius! And actually sounds like a lot of fun.
